From the General Manager | August 2020 Facility Updates

Like many industries both small and large, the fitness industry has been drastically impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent economic suppression. At the time of writing this statement, Performance Health & Fitness has been open for exactly 10 weeks since the shutdown to slow the spread of the virus. While we’ve certainly had challenges and will likely continue to experience bumps along the way, we’ve been encouraged by our members, clients, and staff over the last several weeks.

Although we’re seeing nearly 50% fewer weekly visits than our average pre-shutdown average, we have seen approximately a 25% increase in weekly visits since June 1st. Additionally, we have been very pleased with everyone’s level of adherence and patience with our screening, sanitation, and distancing protocols. We’re also encouraged by the participation in our virtual membership options and at-home programming we are providing. They have served as a great tool for us to stay connected to many of our members who have chosen not to return to in-person fitness classes or training at this time.

Our staff should also be commended for stepping up as needed and providing guidance and leadership where needed. While we do understand that there are always areas that can be improved, we want to thank you all for helping us maintain safety standards here at Performance.

Currently, we do not anticipate major changes to our operational hours, services, or programming in the coming weeks. We will continue to promote distancing both in and outside of our facilities, as well as continue to improve our cleaning effectiveness and consistency. We also encourage all to adhere to personal hygiene standards as well as the use of PPE, including masks and/or shields. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, we will continue to ask that all of our members, guests, and staff to please stay home if they are symptomatic or believe they may have been exposed to the virus until they have been cleared by their primary care provider.

We certainly appreciate your patience as we navigate the ever-changing business and social environment that we are all encountering. We are hopeful to be able to increase our operational hours, services, and programming in the near future as we continue to strive to recover from some of the changes to our business that have taken place over the past 100 days.

As always, please follow our social media and website for the most up to date information about any changes that could be made.

Sincerely,

Brock Reed
General Manager, Performance health & Fitness

4 Tips for Finding the Right Fitness Program for You

Updated – Originally published 05/30/2017

In this ever-changing and growing industry of fitness, new and exciting workout trends are popping up all the time.

High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), heart rate zone training, kettlebell, CrossFit and hot yoga are just to name a few. The options are endless when choosing which type of program works best for you.

Being healthy and fit means different things to different people – from doing something active daily, pushing yourself to the max every workout, going for a run or training for your next PR (personal record). There is no right or wrong answer as long as you are working towards your own health and fitness goals.

As a health coach and personal trainer, here are four guidelines I give my clients that can help you decide what works best for you:

1) What are your health and fitness goals?
Using SMART goals is a great way to set up Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timebased goals. As a Health Coach, we use SMART goals to help us design an effective program dedicated to you want to achieve.

2) What is your current level of fitness?
Are you a novice, intermediate or advanced? Do you have limitations? Knowing what your current level of fitness is and if you have any limitations will help you choose an exercise program to keep you healthy and give you the best results.

3) What type of exercise program looks the most appealing?
Pick something you will enjoy. If you have fun while working out you are more likely to stick with the program.

4) What do you think you’ll stay consistent with?
Consistency is what drives success. The more time you dedicate to your health the more likely you are to succeed.

At Performance Health & Fitness, we have so many options to satisfy any novice exerciser up to fitness enthusiast.

HIIT – We have classes (like TEAM Training) that use HIIT to push individuals in a group setting with workouts programmed and instructed by Certified Personal Trainers.

Personal Training – We have Personal Training to satisfy those who want an all-around workout program along with the reassurance and confidence that comes from professional guidance and support.

Mind-Body Classes – Are you looking for more body strength, flexibility, or a mind-easing workout? Try our yoga or stretch/mobility classes.

Equipment – If you are looking to use the gym on your own terms we have multiple types of cardiovascular equipment, Olympic lifting platforms, squat racks, dumbbell sets, and many machines to work different areas of the body.

Whichever avenue you decide to take, enjoy it!

Keep pushing yourself to become a strong, healthier and more fit you!

“I am a competitive cyclist and have been in personal training at Performance for 6 years. The best part about the trainers is that they know our medical histories very well.  Leslie is great at modifying a training session specifically to each individual person’s limitations so as to avoid injury.”*
