In this ever-changing and growing industry of fitness, new and exciting workout trends are popping up all the time.
High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), heart rate zone training, kettlebell, CrossFit and hot yoga are just to name a few. The options are endless when choosing which type of program works best for you.
Being healthy and fit means different things to different people – from doing something active daily, pushing yourself to the max every workout, going for a run or training for your next PR (personal record). There is no right or wrong answer as long as you are working towards your own health and fitness goals.
As a health coach and personal trainer, here are four guidelines I give my clients that can help you decide what works best for you:
1) What are your health and fitness goals?
Using SMART goals is a great way to set up Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time–based goals. As a Health Coach, we use SMART goals to help us design an effective program dedicated to you want to achieve.
2) What is your current level of fitness?
Are you a novice, intermediate or advanced? Do you have limitations? Knowing what your current level of fitness is and if you have any limitations will help you choose an exercise program to keep you healthy and give you the best results.
3) What type of exercise program looks the most appealing?
Pick something you will enjoy. If you have fun while working out you are more likely to stick with the program.
4) What do you think you’ll stay consistent with?
Consistency is what drives success. The more time you dedicate to your health the more likely you are to succeed.
