What sets our coaching staff at Performance Health and Fitness apart from others in the area? Our education and our continued education.

At Performance we hold a high standard for all of our coaches. Each has a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Health and Human Physiology, or Recreational Therapy. A few of our coaches have Master’s Degrees!

We want our coaching staff to be able to continue their education in all aspects of health, to help our community achieve their goals. Our coaches have received other specialty certifications to help broaden their knowledge. These include Kettlebells, Olympic Lifting, Strength and Conditioning to Health Coaching and Nutrition Coaching.

Recently, I have been certified as a Certified Nutrition Coach from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). With this certification, it allows me to be able to coach others on how to incorporate personalized nutrition plans that fit their goals and lifestyles.

What we do at the gym is only 3% of the work that is necessary to achieve a high quality, long lasting life. I love being able to help others with the other 4 components: stress management, proper hydration, nutrition, and sleep quality.

During consultations, I have met with people who are frustrated because they are not seeing the results that they are looking for. This could be caused by high stress and poor sleep quality. 95% of the time it is caused by people not eating enough to support their body.

When it comes to nutrition, there is not a one size fits all plan. The plan that is necessary, changes throughout your life.

You don’t have to cut out certain foods to achieve your goals. You may have to cut down on your portions of certain foods. It’s all about balance!

Even if you have a food sensitivity, it’s not a forever reaction. You may have to cut out some of those foods that your body has a negative reaction to until your gut health has healed. This is where an elimination nutrition plan might be used by a Registered Dietician or a Physician. This can help our bodies heal. They are not meant to be implemented for the rest of your life.

Once you have decreased your sensitivity to certain foods by decreasing inflammation, then you are ready to reintroduce foods back into your daily diet. Nutrition Coaches can coach people through these elimination nutrition plans and help them implement these after prescribed by a licensed professional.

As long as your body tolerates all foods, the basics of nutrition science help people achieve their health and wellness goals.

Eat enough to fuel your body and make sure that your nutrition plan fits your lifestyle.

If you exercise more you might lose weight on the scale. This might be all muscle loss instead of fat loss. This can be caused by not eating enough protein or complete at least 2 days of strength training per week.

Most of our clients want to maintain or increase their muscle mass instead of increasing their body fat which may not result in huge numbers lost on the scale but their clothes will fit better and they will have a leaner body type. If this sounds like you then make sure you eat your protein and hit the weights. Pick a pair of pants as your measuring tool and toss your scale out the window or let out some frustration by using a sledgehammer!
