As parents, we all want our kids to have a healthy lunch, but we also want something our kids will actually eat. Kids love sandwiches, but they can get boring to eat day-after-day. Enter pinwheels – they are easy to make, like a sandwich, and kids love them! You can customize it to your child’s taste – turkey, ham, cheese, veggie, PB&J, and the list goes on-and-on. They are quick to put together and transport well in a lunchbox. The video below shows you how to make a turkey, cheese and bell pepper pinwheel, and a PB&J pinwheel.
What you need:
- wheat wrap or tortilla
- protein – turkey, ham, chicken, cheese, hummus, peanut butter
- color (fruit or veggie) – bell peppers, spinach, tomatoes, banana, strawberries, jelly, pomegranate
- optional extras – chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds
Assembly:
- lay tortilla flat on the counter
- layer protein on the tortilla (if using shredded cheese – I would melt it slightly before adding other ingredients)
- top with colorful fruit or veggies
- add the optional extras
- roll up tortilla up and slice into pinwheels
- Enjoy!
